In the title salt, (CHN)[ZnCl(CHN)], pyridine acts as a protonated counter-ion and a ligand in the complex anion. toc In the title salt, (CHN)[ZnCl(CHN)], the Znatom is four-coordinated by one pyridine N atom and three chloride ligands, forming a slightly distorted tetrahedral ZnNClenvironment. In the crystal, the cation and anion are linked by bifurcated N—H⋯(Cl,Cl) and C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, generating a supramolecular assembly that is further consolidated by π–π stacking interactions between aromatic rings. Hirshfeld surface analysis shows that H⋯Cl/Cl⋯H contacts are the dominant contribution to the crystal packing, accounting for 44.1% of the total surface contacts, followed by H⋯H (29.9%) and H⋯C/C⋯H (15.0%) interactions.
